Papillon
Papillon
This evening I had planned some shopping at the Alpha stores in Vile Parle area. Now shopping is not a breeze as it is abroad, here there is no sidewalk to check out stores, there is however major traffic, crowds and crowds inside and outside, random veg stalls selling exotic fruits and well, it’s monsoon season, so the entire experience just drains out your energy. So i drifted to the nearest place around, Papillon – surprised by its name, as most wouldn’t know Papillon is butterfly in french, despite the 2 butterflies drawn on their name board.
So from the outside there is not much to be expected, there is an outdoor seating area made of metal, chairs, tables and dishware lol. However for the more demanding, you will find a AC section in the back part and upstairs. (Prices don’t vary).
I’ve been here a few times and have tried the following dishes.
1.Briyani
It has the mixes alright, the vegs too, however it turns out to be just a spicy rice mix with mild flavour.
2. Mushroom Pizza
Well, I know my pizza, apart from entire India using the wrong cheese, this place said it was mushroom Pizza, it was just a thick dough with processed cheese. Had to resort to ketchup. I know right? What was I thinking ordering pizza at a punjabi place.
3. Naan
No comments, perfectly made.
4. Shyam Savera Veg Kofta
This dish should get an award. It’s basic veg koftas in the usual gravy but they maintain their moisture and they are tasty indeed, it’s a must order if you happen to be here.
5. Chole (Garbanzo Beans).
It was good, just remember to regulate the spiciness asking the waiter.
6. Kulfi
There is no proper Kulfi, you can mix whatever you want, but Papillon does a very good job. They add rabri, Falooda, those sabu dhana and rose syrup. Oh and the Kulfi itself, the entire combo is tasty.
You can tell by the prices they are aware of being the only restaurant in the area, and people will get hungry after shopping or just want a place to find shelter. Nonetheless, if you go for what they make traditionally ie – bhajis and such, you’ll have a good experience. For the rest continental food, avoid unless you must.
